  • Dagger

After shortening a sword for a customer, I had a good piece of blade left. Hand fluted guard, walnut from an 1893 Turkish Mauser stock and whitetail antler. Back seamed sheath shortened from the sword scabbard.

  • A Sword for a Young Man

The blade was an 1870 Naval Bayonet (Ames contract) for the 1870 Springfield rifle. At some point, someone cut it to fit a ceremonial sword. It was a fine blade on chintzy fittings. Having salvaged the blade and sold the parts, it is now hilted in curly maple and steel, Viking style, for my son.

  • Child's Viking Sword

My daughter helped me design this Viking-style "Sword" when she was six. It passed down to my son. As they both now have actual swords, this dagger is now for sale. While the Norse didn't use daggers, it's only a sword for a small person, and a handy early period dagger for adults. Blade is 1095 high carbon steel from a Spanish-made dagger, forged, fullered and tempered to Rc 47. Hilt is imitation ivory with leather washers dyed dark purple. The material has grain and ages like real ivory, toward a yellow hue. Back seamed sheath is leather, embossed and dyed dark purple.

    Blade: 11.5"

    Grip: 3"

    Hilt including grip: 4.5"
