Japanese Artillery Short Sword

From the estate collection of Professor Henry Karlson, IUPUI law professor and advisor to the Indiana Supreme Court.

Just predating the Russo-Japanese War.

The first line of text reads Tokyou Hou-hei Kousho (Tokyo Army/Navy Armory)

The second reads Meiji 36 (1903).

The third means "Manufactured in".

This piece is in excellent shape, with very little patina on the unsharpened blade. The handle scales are original and intact, but slightly loose. Arsenal paint on the fittings is largely complete, with some scuffing. Scabbard throat is slightly loose vertically. Scabbard fits well. The tip is missing the retention staple, but is affixed with contact cement. Stitching is intact. Leather collar is complete and supple. Further photos available on request.

Price: $800
